How Wild Camp came to be
In the 1970s Felix’s parents bought a podere in the Maremma countryside – first as a holiday home, then as a place to live. Felix was ten when the family moved to Italy for good. He went to school and sat his final exams here in Tuscany.
In 1999 military service took him back to Germany. That is where Manuela and Felix met and fell in love. She studied psychology, education and intercultural communication; he studied forestry.
After his studies Felix worked for a German sawmill, later for a company in Austria – and it made possible what he had been suggesting to Manuela for years: working from Tuscany. With her degree finished and their first child born, the two of them packed their bags and emigrated with a six-week-old son, to the house where Felix grew up. For Felix it was a homecoming, for Manuela an adventure.
Felix travelled a lot and was usually only home at weekends. After their second and third child, the longing to spend more time together grew – and the long-dormant dream of Wild Camp began to take shape.
They bought the land in the year of the coronavirus. Manuela was certain the moment she stepped out of the car in front of the house and saw the Maremma valley before her. Felix was certain when they drove an old pickup through the centuries-old olive grove.
After the main house had been renovated and the pool built – no small job – material and building costs exploded with the war in Ukraine. The glamping site and campsite could only be financed if the two of them did every job themselves. In 2023 Felix gave up his job. In July 2024 they took their first steps into the world of agricampeggio – and they are not running out of ideas.
